Rufus is a sweet natured Shepherd/Husky cross that came to SCARS in late January 2010. Until then, it had been a hard knocks life for him. SCARS can't even begin to guess what he had been through in his eight long years of life. They do know that he was a dog living in less than desirable conditions, and somehow he survived. When he was brought to SCARS by the kind volunteers at Northern Spirit K9 Rescue, his rear leg was shattered and he had dog bites all over the top of his head and his entire back. It was even discovered that he had gunshot pellets around and across his hind end. He had to undergo extensive surgery and now he is recovering with a big metal brace on his right back leg. He also needed a lot of stitches. He had to endure pins, plates and external devices to keep his shattered leg together. It's kind of like the Humpty Dumpty story, except this time the kind vets and assistants at the Edmonton Veterinary Emergency Clinic tried and succeeded to put him back together again.
Thank you again to the generous SCARS donors. It is their generosity that allowed Rufus to finally experience a warm and gentle life after all of the pain and suffering he has had to endure. Without the support of people who care about dogs like Rufus, the nice volunteers at SCARS would never be able to give him a second chance.
