Heidi (formerly Buttercup)

December 2010 - We adopted Heidi ( formerly Buttercup) from SCARS in mid-November 2010, a month after she had been found by a PARS worker near High Prairie. She was unable to walk because of her broken femur, broken pelvis and 2 broken tibia bones. After being transferred to SCARS and undergoing surgery at the Westlock Veterinary Center, she rested and healed with her foster family for a month. Thanks so much to all of the wonderful volunteers at SCARS and to PARS for finding and saving her. We adore and love Heidi so much, and are so thankful to have her as part of our family!

She's 5 months old now, and about 23 pounds and doing so well. She is so friendly, affectionate and not the least bit fearful. Waldo, our golden retriever, seen in the pics, is enjoying her company and having a playmate. She's good with our 3 cats as well, although a couple of them prefer to keep their distance as they are not huge fans of canines - no matter how nice they are! I knew the moment I first saw Heidi on the SCARS site that I wanted her to be part of our family.

I can't thank SCARS enough for this joyful puppy. (As a final note, we had her DNA checked through www.dnamydog.com and found out she is quite the interesting mixture! Her grandparents would have been mixtures of Norwegian Elkhound and Border Collie and great-grandparents showed Dalmation and of all things, Pekingese!!! We never would have guessed! It was fun to find out and actually be able to answer the question as to her heritage!)
