How You Can Help

Click the underlined headings below for more information.

Become a member

An annual membership with SCARS costs just $25 and provides you with a biannual newsletter from the society which will contain fun, interesting, and useful information, a one year membership card, an opportunity to help out and possibly work with the animals in need, and a calendar depicting the animals you have helped.

Make a donation

SCARS is a non-profit charitable organization and can issue tax receipts. We are only funded by our members and supporters and currently do not receive government financial support.

If you would like to contribute to our worthwhile cause, please donate online. A tax receipt will be issued for all donations over $20.00

Donate items on our wish list

SCARS does not currently receive regular funding. We, therefore, rely solely on memberships, donations, sponsorships, and money that we raise through special events. We have put together a list of some of the more prominent items that we need on an ongoing basis. Any donations are very much appreciated.

Become a volunteer

SCARS is always looking for volunteers (to help with fundraising, events, animal care, etc). As a volunteer, you will become an integral part of a group dedicated to giving animals a second chance.

Become a volunteer foster family

SCARS does not currently have a central facility to house the many stray, injured and abused animals that we take in. We rely on our volunteer foster families to assist us in providing the animals with the temporary care that they need until a suitable home can be found. SCARS will provide the food, vet care, and supplies needed to foster, all you have to provide is the time and loving care.

Purchase SCARS Gear

We have calendars and memberships for sale!

Sponsor a Pet of the Week advertisement

We are currently running a Pet of the Week advertisement in our local newspaper each week with the help of sponsorships. The Pet of the Week ad gives us the opportunity to advertise our adoptable animals, and gives the animal greater exposure increasing their chance of finding a permanent loving home. Our sponsors pay for the advertisement and in turn their name appears in the ad as the sponsor. If you are interested in sponsoring a Pet of the Week ad, contact us for sponsorship forms.

Donate your empty bottle refund money

Donating your empty bottle refund money is an easy way to donate to a great cause and help some wonderful animals. If you are returning your bottles / cans for refund at the bottle depot in Athabasca, just ask the staff to donate the refund money directly. It’s that easy!

Have your pet spayed or neutered

One of the best ways to help the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society is to have your pet spayed or neutered. Each year millions of animals are euthanized in shelters due to lack of available homes. After all, for every home that you find for an animal that you have bred, a home is lost for a shelter animal.
