The SCARS Rescue Pack will kick off the 8th annual SCARS Tails on the Trails Pawsathon 2012 walk on July 7 at 11:00 a.m??. The Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) Rescue Pack is a group of four rescued dogs who have been rehomed and now live new lives with caring and loving families. They have come together to represent all dogs in need of rescue in northern Alberta. The Rescue Pack embodies the reason that SCARS exists. Please support them in their campaign to raise funds for Tails on the Trails Pawsathon 2012.

The pack will walk the trails in support of others who are desperately in need of rescue in northern Alberta. Please sponsor our walk and come out to visit the SCARS Rescue Pack dog team at Pawsathon 2012. Don't forget to bring your furry friends and enjoy the excitement! There will be prizes, exhibits, demonstrations and fun for all ages!

Proceeds from this event directly fund the rescue and medical recovery of animals rescued by Second Chance Animal Rescue Society.

Maliha's story

Maliha

My name is Maliha. My story is that I came to SCARS in terrible shape in August 2010. I was emaciated and had been severely beaten. My whole nasal cavity was caved in and it has caused a severe infection. Pretty awful, huh! My nose was literally flat and my teeth point every which way. I could not breathe out of my nose and I could not eat properly.

Since then, I have had the very best of care. Several surgeries later, I am learning to deal with my disabilities. I will never want for love, shelter or food again! I am a gentle, sweet dog and I don't understand why anyone would want to hurt me. I'm so grateful to have been rescued!

We've been rescued; help us rescue others in need!

Fionn's story

Fionn

Hi, my name is Fionn. The foster mom I stayed with when I was first rescued named me after Fionn MacCool, a famous Irish mythological warrior. She said he should be my namesake because, like me, he was very strong, brave, handsome, generous of spirit and very wise.

I am one of 24 huskies that were rescued from certain death in late July 2009. I was born and bred to be a sled dog, but I ended up spending my ten years of life on a five-foot chain alone in the cold with no human interaction.

I now live with a loving family and I have a new big brother and two big sisters. My new parents love to take us furry kids for long walks twice a day. I get so excited at walk time that I just can't help but howl and spin in circles!

It's taken me some time to learn to trust people, all I needed was some love and kindness.

Judy's Story

Judy

Hi everyone, my name is Judith Marie and my life started out pretty rough. My four brothers and I were found in a cardboard box on the side of a northern highway in October of 2009. A nice person found us and brought us to SCARS. We were only four weeks old so we all got to stay together for a few weeks until we could find new "furever" homes. I was the littlest at two pounds, but also the wildest, of course.

My new foster mom took me to an adoption day and secretly hoped that no one would adopt me because she and my foster sister and brother had all gotten very attached to me. As it turned out, no one adopted me so I decided to stay with my foster family forever.

Me and my sister, who is also a SCARS rescue, are best friends and we play together all the time. She has shown me how to swim in the river and chase birds at the dog park, both things I really like. I love my brother too, but he doesn't play as much; I just like to lick his ears and make sure he is happy.

I have had a lot of little foster siblings to play with since then and I have shown them all how to have fun and enjoy being puppies while they are waiting for their "furever" families to find them.

Eliza's story

Eliza

My name is Eliza. When I was eight months old, I was living outside a home in a northern Alberta community with my seven six-week-old puppies. The people I was living with gave away one of my puppies to their neighbour, and called SCARS to come and take the rest of them.

The SCARS volunteers who came to get my puppies saw that I was very underfed and filthy from living outside under a shed, so they took me as well. We all went to a really nice foster home until it was time to wean my puppies. I then went back to live with some of the volunteers who had rescued me, and never left. I'm now part of their family along with two other SCARS rescue dogs.

I get to go to agility lessons every week, and love to play with the other dogs in our back yard. Oh, and SCARS found great "furever" homes for my six pups as well!

Sofi's story

Sofi

Hi there, my name is Sofi (my mom calls me her "Sweetness"), and I have a bit of a cool story to tell about myself. SCARS president, Sylvia Christiansen rescued me when I was about nine months old.

As it turns out, my new mom had a dream about me right around the time I came to SCARS. She had a dog named Kofi who had passed away and in her dream she met a dog named Sofi who looked and acted just like her Kofi. Well, there I was on the SCARS Web site when she looked three days later. Obviously we were meant to be together, and the timing was just right. Cool huh?

When I went home with my new mom, I got to meet their three kids, and my new four-legged sisters and brother. Everyone accepted me very graciously. At first, I had no idea what toys were or what they were for; I did not even know how to play. I did not know how good life was going to be for me. Today I love to play with toys and with my sisters and two-legged family members. I love attention and affection, and now I get to help other dogs get rescued. My new family is now an active SCARS foster home.
